PHYSICIAN & TEAM
TRAINING
NATIONAL MARROW DONOR PROGRAM
With two training objectives – ensuring consistency and
higher quality (i.e. better cell counts) in the collected product – the
National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) asked Hoffman Communications to produce
training media that clearly illustrated recommended techniques
for physicians and their teams to collect marrow from a donor.
Because of NMPD’s exacting standards for this project,
we worked in partnership with them to develop the script and video.
Our crews shot live footage of a physician and the supporting team
performing an actual marrow collection procedure using NMDP preferred
methods. Our two guiding principals for shooting video in a medical
setting:
Be thoroughly prepared
Medical personnel,
patients and protocol come first at all times and in all places.
Ensuring that physicians watching the training was an important
objective to NMPD. We recommended that they consider two media – their
traditional use of video plus CD-ROM – to take advantage
of the growing numbers of physicians that appreciate the
convenience of learning on their desktop.
